History

I’ve been walking in the Lake District for nearly twenty years and enjoy everything about it, from the sylvan valleys to the rugged peaks. I’ve seen it in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and appreciate what each season has to offer; my photographs are taken with a discerning appreciation for its changing beauty.

Style

My photography is motivated by a ‘walker’s eye’, rather than stereotypical tourist viewpoints. I do have some of the famous scenes in my collection, because they make beautiful pictures. However you’ll also find hidden places and non-obvious viewpoints, and images depicting dramatic rather than pretty or idyllic scenarios.

Site Navigation

Some images could be designated in two areas: for example, by showing the panorama from ridge (A) looking down into valley (B). And I sometimes have images from minor areas where it makes sense to classify them as part of a nearby famous area. This means it’s worth browsing all the galleries, or a few of them, if you are looking for a particular image.

Prints

I offer high quality fine-art prints produced on the state-of-the-art printer, the Epson R2400, using professional paper at approximately 11 x 8 for £30 (A4), and 16 x 10 x for £45 (A3). Prices include postage and packing, different formats and sizes available by special arrangement. I use Paypal which is convenient, secure, and widely used, facilitating most of the transactions at Ebay. Please contact me for alternative payment. Photographs are carefully produced at all stages currently using a Canon 5D with L Series lenses, shooting in RAW making TIF files up to about 80 mb. I make technical adjustments only – contrast, saturation, sharpening and cropping – as I used to do in a darkroom. To purchase my images as digital files or web-ready graphics for corporate or commercial use, please contact me for licensing and fee details. For personal use I don’t normally supply the digital file.

Commissions/Book

With an extensive photographic knowledge of the Lake District, I accept commissions for any aspect of this area: mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers and villages. I’m also interested in a publication, possibly with the title Mountain Photography. To see my writing style and further interests, refer to my other site James Lomax Photography
